What to include

Your name

First name is enough. It's what people will actually call you, and what shows up in the caption.

Your hometown

City and state (or city and country). It's the single most common thing people scan for when they're looking for someone nearby.

Your intended major

Say "undecided" or list the couple of areas you're weighing if you haven't picked one -- that's still useful, and completely normal to post.

Your roommate status

"Still looking," "rooming with a friend," or "assigned, haven't met them yet" -- stated plainly rather than left out.

One or two specific details

A hobby, a show you're always talking about, an instrument, a sport -- specific beats generic. "I play club volleyball and edit a food blog" tells someone more than "I like sports and food."

Before and after

Same amount of effort, very different result. Specific details are what make someone stop scrolling and actually comment.

This is going on a public Instagram post that anyone can see, including people outside your incoming class. Keep it to what you'd tell someone in person on move-in day, not their contact info.
